Dental Implants Q & A

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are hardware that act as your artificial tooth roots to hold your dental prosthesis, such as your dentures, a crown, or a bridge, securely in place. They can be used when replacing a single tooth or multiple teeth.

Dr. Zarabi surgically bonds the dental implants to your jaw bone, and since they’re created from materials that are completely safe for your body, they work in harmony with your body tissue and bone.

How are dental implants placed?

During your dental implant procedure, Dr. Zarabi administers anesthesia, makes an incision in your gums, and drills small holes in your jawbone.

Dr. Zarabi then places titanium implants in the holes and stitches your gums closed to allow time for your implants to fuse with your jaw in a process called osseointegration.

Once the implant is surgically placed, it usually takes around three to six months for osseointegration to occur and for your implants to completely fuse to your jawbone.

Only once the healing process is complete, you return to the office where Dr. Zarabi secures an abutment, a supporting element, to the top of each implant. Dr. Zarabi then attaches your dental prosthesis to the abutments.

Why would I need dental implants?

Dr. Zarabi might recommend dental implants if your dentures are continuously falling out, are uncomfortable, and don’t fit properly.

In many cases, tooth loss has impacted speech or altered a smile. This is also where dental implants and prosthetics are a viable treatment option to replace your teeth and rebuild your desired smile.

Who is a good candidate for dental implants?

The main criteria that must be fulfilled for you to be a good candidate for dental implants are:

  • Healthy oral tissues
  • A jawbone that’s fully grown
  • No underlying medical conditions that can affect bone healing

What are the benefits of dental implants?

Dental implants offer many benefits and work to stabilize artificial teeth and preserve a jawbone that’s been damaged.

Dental implants work well for patients who are unable to wear dentures and for those on a quest for longer-lasting results that can improve your speech and oral health.

While your natural teeth can decay and deteriorate, dental implants will last and are made of cutting-edge materials.

Since dental implants are fused with your jawbone, they won’t slip, cause any bone damage, or make unexpected noises.
